Unit 10: Grammar: Future Forms (Will vs. Be Going To) (أشكال المستقبل: Will مقابل Be Going To)

In English, we choose different future forms based on how sure we are and when we made the decision. Will is often for "now" decisions, while Be Going To is for plans.

Will

Quick, spontaneous decisions and general predictions. *"I'm thirsty. I will buy a soda."*

Be Going To

Plans made before and predictions based on evidence. *"I am going to study medicine next year."*

Using "Will" (استخدام Will)

Spontaneous Decisions

"The phone is ringing. I will answer it!"

Offers & Promises

"I will help you with those heavy bags."

Opinions / Predictions

"I think it will be sunny tomorrow."

Using "Be Going To" (استخدام Going To)

Plans & Intentions

"We are going to move to another city next month." (We decided last week)

Predictions with Evidence

"Look at the dark clouds! It is going to rain." (I can see it)

B1 Expansion: Future Arrangements

At the B1 level, we also use the Present Continuous for fixed arrangements (events with a date and time): "I am meeting the dentist at 4:00 PM today." This is more than just a plan; it is a fixed appointment.

Watch for Keywords in the exam question: • Use Will if you see: *"I think," "I'm sure," "Maybe," "Probably,"* or *"I promise."* • Use Be Going To if you see: *"Look!," "Watch out!," "Already decided,"* or *"The plan is..."*
