Unit 2: Reading Skill: Identifying the Main Idea
The main idea is the central message or most important point of a text.
How to Find It
- Read the whole text to get a general sense of the topic.
- Look closely at the title and the first sentence of each paragraph.
- Find repeated words or phrases that are key to the topic.
- Ask yourself: *"What is the most important message the author is trying to tell me?"*
- Try to summarize the main idea in one single sentence in your own words.
