An inference is a logical conclusion you reach based on evidence and reasoning from the text, like "reading between the lines."

How to Infer

Example: Text: "He was yawning and his eyes were red." Inference: He is probably tired and hasn't slept well.
  • Activate your background knowledge and common sense.
  • Look for clues, hints, and details in the text.
  • Make logical connections between the clues and what you already know.
