Wishes: Unreal Situations (التمني - مواقف غير واقعية)

I wish + Past Simple

Used for things you want to change now. "I wish I had more free time." (I don't have it now) "I wish I lived in a bigger house."

If only...

Stronger and more emotional than "I wish". "If only I were taller!" "If only she spoke English better."

Hopes: Possible Situations (الأمل - مواقف ممكنة)

I hope + Present Simple

"I hope you pass your driving test." (It is possible) "I hope it stops raining soon."

I hope + Will

"I hope you will have a great time!" "I hope we can meet again."

Wish + Would (Annoyance) (التمني لتغيير سلوك مزعج)

Use "would" when you want someone else to change their annoying behavior :

Wish + Would (Annoyance) (التمني لتغيير سلوك مزعج)

would stop

I wish you would... "I wish you would stop making so much noise!"

would arrive

I wish they would... "I wish they would arrive on time."

When rewriting for Wishes , remember the Opposite Rule : • If the reality is Affirmative ("I am poor"), the wish is Negative ("I wish I *wasn't* poor"). • If the reality is Negative ("I don't have a car"), the wish is Affirmative ("I wish I *had* a car").
