NORDINVERSITY
2nd Bac Reading

Unit 7: Reading Skill: Analyzing Tone, Point of View & Context

At the B1-B2 level, reading is about more than just facts. You must identify Diction (word choice) to understand the author's Point of View (POV) and the emotional Tone of the text regarding celebrations. (في المستوى المتوسط والمتقدم، يجب تحليل اختيار الكلمات لفهم وجهة نظر الكاتب والنبرة العاطفية للنص)

Step 1: Detect Connotation (كشف الدلالة اللفظية)

Does the unknown word feel positive, negative, or neutral ? Words like "lavish" suggest luxury (positive/neutral), while "excessive" suggests a waste of money (negative).

Step 2: Determine Stance (تحديد الموقف)

Look for subjective adjectives. If an author calls a festival "chaotic," they are critical . If they call it "vibrant," they are supportive . Tone & Context Decoder (فك رموز النبرة والسياق)

Context Clues for Advanced Vocabulary (قرائن السياق للمفردات المتقدمة)

Authors often use restatement or contrast to explain complex terms. *Example:* "Unlike the somber atmosphere of a funeral, the wedding was full of mirth ." Even if you don't know "mirth," the contrast with "somber" tells you it means "happiness" or "laughter." (غالباً ما يستخدم الكتاب التباين أو إعادة الصياغة لشرح المصطلحات الصعبة)
