Unit 10: Lesson 4: Reading - Guessing Words from Context

When you see a new word, you can often guess its meaning from the words and sentences around it.

Look at other words: (انظر للكلمات الأخرى)

"The cat chased the fluttering butterfly." Guess: You know butterflies move lightly, so "fluttering" means moving lightly.

Use your knowledge: (استخدم معرفتك)

"She poured the batter into the pan to make pancakes." Guess: You know pancake mix is a liquid, so "batter" is a liquid food mix.

Look at prefixes: (انظر للبادئات)

"He was un happy." Guess: You know "happy." The prefix "un-" means "not." So, "unhappy" means not happy.
