Grammar: Conditionals: Third & Mixed

These advanced conditionals are used to talk about unreal past situations and connect them to hypothetical results in the past or present.

Use: To imagine a different past. It describes a situation that did not happen and its hypothetical past result. Often used to express regret. Form: `If + Past Perfect, ... would have + past participle (V3).` Example: "If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam." (Reality: I didn't study, so I didn't pass).

Use: To connect a hypothetical past condition with a present result, or a present condition with a past result. Form 1 (Past Condition → Present Result) Form: `If + Past Perfect, ... would + base verb.` Example: "If you had taken the job, you would be rich now." Form 2 (Present Condition → Past Result) Form: `If + Past Simple, ... would have + past participle (V3).` Example: "If I were a good cook, I would have made dinner for you."
