Grammar: Imperatives

Use: To give direct commands, orders, instructions, warnings, or to make requests (often softened with "please"). The subject "you" is implied and not used.

Positive Form: Base Verb (+ object/details)

  • *Open your books to page 34.* (Instruction)
  • *Be careful!* (Warning)
  • *Please don't touch the paintings.* (Negative request)

Negative Form: Do not (Don't) + Base Verb

  • *Don't touch that.* (Command)
  • *Do not enter this area.* (Formal Warning)
